The school day fits in one hand.
Status
This is a preview.
school is being built, launching autumn 2026 — in time for the school year rather than mid-term. The images show the running build with test data, not a mock-up; what is still missing is listed further down.
If you are a school or a teacher who wants to come along early, that is what the time until autumn is for.
The promise
The school day in one place.
Today it is spread across half a dozen tools: the administration system, a timetable programme, a spreadsheet for marks, a messenger for parents, paper for the rest. school is the view the day actually happens in — on the phone, in the classroom.
Built for Austria: the 1-to-5 marking scale, school types from primary through lower secondary, academic and vocational upper secondary to the polytechnic school, years one to thirteen. The curriculum, the final-exam papers and the retention periods are the Austrian ones.
What is in it
Teaching, assessment, contact with families.
Not everything at once: “Today” shows the lesson running and what is next, everything else sits one level down.
Today and the timetable
The lesson running with time left and room, the weekly grid, cover lessons. Importable from a WebUntis export.
Class register
Lesson topic, homework, attendance — one entry per day and period, optionally tied to a curriculum code.
Marks and absences
Weighted individual marks, the mark book as a matrix, a distribution view. Absences flag up when they cluster.
Assignments and exams
Due date and hand-in status in the same view. The app warns when too many tests land in one week.
Messages with acknowledgement
To the school, a class or a family. Where acknowledgement is required, it names who has given it.
Parents’ day, requests, payments
Let slots be booked, decide leave requests, track cash payments per child.
Two ways to run it
On this device only — or with a school account.
A single teacher can start straight away without the school rolling anything out. Run locally, everything stays encrypted on the phone: no account, no server, no data processing agreement for one teacher’s mark list.
What needs a server does not work locally: chat, parent linking, parents’ day, requests, digital hand-ins. The app says so on the spot. Moving to a school account later takes your records with it.
Local operation stays free; the school account is paid and free during the trial.
With learn
Material becomes an assignment.
The curriculum, the final-exam papers and open educational media are built in, with no learn account. If an explanation is missing mid-lesson, you find it in the app and assign it to the class.
Pupils’ names stay in school. learn never sees them, not even when a class is linked.
Roles and privacy
School data is children’s data.
Every role sees what concerns it. Pupil accounts are pseudonymous — no name, no email address, no date of birth; parents are added only through a code from the teacher.
- Absence reasons are a picklist, not a free-text field. A free-text box collects diagnoses nobody asked for.
- Notifications carry no content. A mark in the preview on a lock screen is a publication.
- Changes to marks are logged by appending, never by overwriting.
- Deletion follows the periods in the School Education Act: class register three years, records of participation one year, messages twelve months.
- No machine assessment. The teacher enters marks; the app works out an average.
The official student records system stays authoritative. The mark book is the teacher’s own record, not a report card.
Honestly
What is still missing.
- Delivery of notifications — the sending route is not switched on yet.
- Printable versions of access cards and parent letters: prepared, not complete.
- File uploads on hand-ins and a live WebUntis connection: planned, not built.
- Trials with test data only, until the processing agreement, the retention policy and the school’s sign-off are in place.
If something essential is missing that is not listed here, now is the best time to say so.
Common questions
From the staff room.
Do we need learn in order to use school?
No. The curriculum, the final-exam papers and open material are searchable without a learn account. With one you can additionally link classes.
Does the school have to roll something out before I can start?
No. Run locally, the phone is enough. The step to a school account comes later and takes your records with it.
Does school replace our administration system?
No. The official student records system stays authoritative; school is the teacher’s working view.
Is there an Android app?
Not at launch. school is built for iPhone and iPad; an Android version is possible but not part of the launch.
Can parents see every child’s marks?
No. Parents see their own child, pupils see themselves — and marks only once the teacher releases them.
